Kokikai Aikido of Chicago
|
Kokikai Aikido practice is characterized by realistic, focused attacks, and fluid responses that use timing and rhythm to take an attacker’s balance before the application of a technique. Kokikai Aikido technique has a minimalist aesthetic that can be described as minimum effort for maximum effect: the ideal technique is the one that requires the least movement and the least energy to effectively take balance and control an attacker. Kokikai Aikido emphasizes mind-body coordination in order to develop each person’s best state of mind and body: calm with a positive attitude and relaxed with good posture. Since Kokikai Aikido improves one’s ability to remain calm and relaxed under stress, it is as beneficial for everyday life as for self-defense.
Kokikai Aikido was developed by Sensei Shuji Maruyama, who began teaching Aikido in the United States over 40 years ago. He encourages his students to grow and develop throughout their lives, as he continues to grow and develop the practice of Kokikai Aikido.
